Willem de Kooning

Five reasons why I like Willem de Kooning's landscape paintings:
1. his strokes seem so packed with energy that you can even feel it when looking at a printed reproduction.
2. they are unashamedly (?) painterly.
3. they evoke a sense of 1950s New York, jazz, bohemia.
4. they speak of freedom and also of anxiety.
5. they act as a touchstone from which I can push off.
